This exhibition was created in conjunction with a paper written for the 2009 graduate conference I Don't Care to Discuss It: Art, Media, and the State in a Globalized Economy. The text is published in the zine Manufacturing Content: Immaterial Labour and the Value of Art, along with images of some of the sculptures.
The blue didactic labels read: "The artwork in Free Ideas has been priced according to a $14/hr wage. No cost has been added to account for the informational or cultural content of the art, or for its market value. Since most of the materials used are found or inexpensive, their cost is negligible and is therefore not included." |
